The short version: We collect the minimum data we need to verify your NYSC status, let you post + chat + trade, and keep you safe. We never sell your data. You can delete your account and everything in it at any time from Settings.
1. Who we are
Corpers Connect is operated by the Corpers Connect team in Nigeria. If you have questions about this policy or your data, email us at privacy@corpersconnect.com.ng.
2. What we collect
When you sign up
- NYSC state code — to verify you're a corps member.
- Name, email, and phone number — tied to your NYSC record.
- Serving state, batch, stream, PPA, LGA — pulled from NYSC data.
- Password — hashed before storage; we never see it in plain text.
When you use the app
- Posts, reels, stories, comments, and reactions you create.
- Messages you send and receive (encrypted in transit).
- Marketplace listings, opportunities, and applications you submit.
- Books you publish, purchase, or review on CC Library.
- Camp Diary entries, including photos and videos you upload.
Device + usage data
- Device type, OS version, app version, IP address (for security).
- Session timestamps — used to power "Active sessions" in Settings.
- Crash reports and anonymised performance metrics.
3. How we use your data
- To verify your identity as a corps member during signup.
- To run the service — show you posts, deliver messages, match buyers with sellers, process book purchases.
- To keep you safe — detect fraud, abuse, and account takeover attempts.
- To send notifications about activity on your account (you can turn these off in Settings).
- To improve the app — anonymised analytics only; never tied to individuals in reports.
4. Who we share data with
We don't sell your data. We only share it in the narrow cases below:
- Other corpers: what you make public (your profile, posts, comments, listings) is visible to other users of the app.
- Infrastructure providers: cloud hosting, media storage (Cloudinary), email delivery, analytics. These providers act as our processors and are contractually bound to keep your data safe.
- Payment processor: book purchases flow through Paystack. They see only what's needed to complete a transaction.
- Law enforcement: when legally compelled, or to investigate serious abuse.
5. Control what others see
You choose what's public and what's private:
- Posts can be Public, State-only, Friends-only, or Only-me.
- Camp Diary entries can be Private, Friends-only, or Public.
- Blocked users can't see your profile, follow you, or send you messages. Manage blocks in Settings → Privacy.
6. Notifications
You can toggle notification categories (follows, likes, comments, mentions, DMs, marketplace inquiries) on or off in Settings → Notifications. These preferences are stored on your device.
7. Data retention
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account (Settings → Delete account), we permanently remove your profile, posts, messages, camp diary, marketplace listings, and uploads.
A few things we may retain for a limited period to comply with the law or resolve disputes:
- Transaction records for 7 years (as required by Nigerian tax and financial regulations).
- Security logs (IP addresses, login times) for up to 90 days.
- Messages you sent to people who have not deleted their accounts — until they also delete.
8. Security
We protect your data with industry-standard measures: HTTPS everywhere, hashed passwords, encrypted media storage, 2FA support, session management, and server-side rate limiting. No system is perfectly secure, but we treat your data with the care it deserves.
If you suspect your account has been compromised, change your password and revoke all other sessions from Settings → Security → Active sessions, then email us immediately.
9. Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access a copy of your personal data.
- Correct inaccurate data (most profile fields are editable in Settings).
- Delete your account and all associated data.
- Withdraw consent at any time.
- File a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).
To exercise any of these, email privacy@corpersconnect.com.ng.
10. Children
Corpers Connect is strictly for users 18 and over. If we learn an account was created by someone under 18, we'll remove it.
11. International data transfers
Our infrastructure is hosted primarily in Nigeria and Europe. Your data may be processed in those jurisdictions. We apply safeguards consistent with NDPR for any cross-border transfers.
12. Changes to this policy
We'll post updates here with a revised "Last updated" date. Material changes will be highlighted in-app so you see them before they take effect.
